Café by the Valley
In Lavasa, the University is the hub of human activity. Café by the Valley, as the name evidently points out, is a cozy café located at the foot of the hills surrounding the institution. The Café by the Valley, popularly known as CBTV, is busiest during working hours and serves hot food to students and visitors. It also provides employment opportunities for the locals. This soundscape is a snippet of a busy day at CBTV. The recording contains sounds from the waterfall, the wind, faint cutlery sounds and voices of people speaking.
On the path to the Central Block from the Management Block
The Central Block and the Management Block are the two blocks that the University functions from. A short path that connects the two blocks runs adjacent to a stream that originates in the hills and is surrounded by trees that nestle a variety of birds. This soundscape contains sounds from the stream, the chirping of birds, footsteps of people walking through the path and voices from conversations.
Paper Recycling Unit
Parivarthana, the paper recycling unit at Christ University Lavasa, is a testament to the institution’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. It is established under the Environment and Sustainability Cohort of the Centre for Social Action (CSA); this initiative focuses on transforming waste paper into usable products; by giving new life to used paper, Parivarthana not only helps reduce the demand for virgin materials but also plays a crucial role in minimising the university’s overall carbon footprint promoting a circular economy model that aligns with global sustainability goals. The unit collects paper waste from across the campus and recycles it into handmade products. This process minimises waste and conserves resources like trees and water, offering eco-friendly alternatives for organisations and individuals.
As you enter the Parivarthana facility, you are greeted by the rhythmic sounds of paper being shredded, pulped, and pressed, a symphony of sustainability in action. The atmosphere is focused on dedication, with staff members meticulously overseeing each stage of the recycling process. Engaging with the individuals here reveals their profound passion for environmental conservation. They eagerly share insights into the techniques employed, the challenges faced, and the tangible impact of their work on the university’s sustainability goals. Through Parivarthana, Christ University Lavasa addresses waste management and cultivates a culture of environmental consciousness and active participation among its community members.
